Staff Accountant

Remote - Ann Arbor, MI

Position Purpose

The Staff Accountant will be a part of the MiHIN Finance Department.  The person in this position will be an integral part of regular monthly activities as well as ad hoc projects involving data gathering and analysis, process improvements, etc.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Perform tasks (including data entry) related to accounts payable and procurement
  • Prepare and post journal entries related to depreciation, prepaid expense amortization, payroll, cost allocations and so forth
  • Prepare and process sales and intercompany invoices
  • Reconcile bank accounts
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts (prepaids, deferred revenue, etc.)
  • Answer accounting questions by researching data
  • Keeping track of all payments and expenditures, including payroll, purchase orders, invoices, statements, etc.
  • Reconciling processed work by verifying entries and comparing system reports to balances
  • Maintaining historical records
  • Paying employees by verifying expense reports and preparing pay checks
  • Paying vendors by scheduling pay checks and ensuring payment is received for outstanding credit; generally responding to all vendor enquiries regarding finance
  • Preparing analyses of accounts and producing monthly reports
  • Continuing to improve the Finance processes
  • Maintain Excel files with financial and non-financial information
  • Follow MiHIN’s internal control practices
  • Assemble appropriate information needed for the annual audit
  • Keep Chief Financial Officer and Controller informed regarding any problems or issues
  • Complete other accounting tasks as may be requested by MiHIN management from time to time
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Ensure that Information MiHIN produces, maintains, stores, or transmits remains secure through adherence to MiHIN's Security Policies and Procedures

 

Qualifications

Requirements include:

 

  • 1-5 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, etc.)
  • Ability to follow instructions and ask questions when needed
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to solve problems
  • Ability to write and communicate effectively
  • Desire to grow professionally

 

Preferred Qualifications include:

 

  • Public accounting experience
  • Familiarity with accounting software packages
  • Familiarity with online tools like DocuSign, Salesforce, etc.
  • Prior experience with both mid-level corporations and small startup organizations
  • Previous experience with high tech, public sector and/or healthcare industries
